A Greenville man is behind bars following his capture less than 20 minutes after robbing the Bank of Travelers Rest at 201 Pelham Road this morning.
At approximately 10 a.m., Eric Anthony Rome, Jr., 30, entered the branch location and demanded cash from a teller after indicating he had a handgun in his waistband. Rome was given an undisclosed amount of money before leaving the bank on foot.
GPD officers responded and promptly established a perimeter in the area around E. North Street and Pelham Road.
A conscientious witness flagged down a patrol officer and said that a suspicious male ran from the vicinity of the bank and into a convenience store on Pelham Road. Police converged on the location and apprehended Rome, who was hiding in the bathroom, without incident.
“Frankly, there is always a tremendous sense of relief for the victims and enormous satisfaction for police when we are able to respond, locate, and arrest a suspect so quickly,” said Capt. Howie Thompson, GPD Investigations Division.
No injuries were reported, and the stolen money was recovered.
Rome has been charged with Bank Robbery and is being held at the Greenville County Detention Center without bond.
The GPD is grateful for the assistance of the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit in today’s search.
