TDP Long-Term Expansion Map

Greenlink 2020-2024 Transit Development Plan

Greenlink’s Transit Development Plan (TDP) outlines potential service expansions for Greenville County residents and calls for the following improvements:

  • Extend evening service to 11:30 p.m. on weeknights and Saturdays
  • Increase weekday and Saturday service so that buses arrive at stops every 30 minutes
  • Implement 12 hours of service on Sundays
  • Explore adding 19 new routes in underserved areas throughout the county

To fund all of these improvements, Greenlink would need an annual operating budget of just over $16 million (additional capital funds would be required to purchase and maintain a larger fleet of buses to serve these expansions). While this may sound high given Greenlink’s existing operating budget of just $5 million, the TDP compared Greenlink’s budget to eight peer transit agencies across the southeast and discovered that the average operating budget is $17 million.

Prioritizing an increased financial investment to improve transportation will depend on the support provided by this community.

As the Upstate continues to grow, moving people and goods across the region, increasing access to transportation, and reducing traffic congestion are key issues that must be addressed at both the local and regional levels.

Led by a coalition of stakeholders, Connecting Our Future is a yearlong effort to create a regional vision and actionable strategies for improving transportation, mobility, and connectivity in the 10-county Upstate.

To learn more, join Ten at the Top on August 7 for the Connecting Our Future Public Rollout. The event will include an overview of challenges and opportunities, as well as ways the Upstate can work collaboratively moving forward to address these critical issues.
